Workshops and bookings

Finding a workshop in the network, linking it to your account, understanding what you share, booking an appointment and following the job on your bike.

On its own the app keeps track of your bike. Linked to a workshop it becomes the direct line to whoever repairs it: you book against real availability, approve quotes, and watch the job move along as it happens.

Finding a workshop#

On Home, if you don't have a workshop yet, there's Workshops near you; the same button is in ProfileWorkshop account.

It opens a map with the list sorted by distance. You can search by name or by city. For distance sorting to work it needs location permission: without it the list is still there, but it doesn't know what's near you.

Two markings can appear next to the name. The type — CrankPal Point, certified workshop, partner workshop — says what relationship the workshop has with the network. The ⭐ Ambassador badge marks membership of the CrankPal community: it isn't a rating and it isn't a league table of skill.

If your usual workshop isn't there, ProfileMy workshops has a panel to tell us about it: name, city, and a contact if you have one. We'll get in touch with them.

Linking, and what you share#

Linking can start from either side: from the workshop, which sends you an invitation, or from you, adding it from the list.

An invitation arrives as a notification and stays valid for 24 hours. If you don't respond it expires and disappears: that isn't a refusal, it simply doesn't decide on your behalf.

Either way, before you confirm, the app shows you what you're sharing. It's an explicit list, in two halves.

The workshop will see your name, contact details and address; your bikes, with components and photos; the bike's maintenance history; the bookings and messages between you and them.

The workshop will not see your dealings with other workshops; your history from before the authorisation; other customers' data.

You can have more than one workshop linked. The one marked Trusted is the workshop your profile came from, usually the first one that registered you as a customer.

Booking an appointment#

The Book appointment button is on Home, on your workshop's card, and next to every component in Diagnosis.

  1. Pick the service

From the list of jobs that workshop actually offers.

  2. Pick a day and a time

The slots are the real ones: the app reads the workshop's opening hours and availability. A closing day says so; a full day does too.

  3. Add a note

Optional, but it's the field that saves you both the most time — "the chain skips under load" is worth more than half an hour of diagnosis.

  4. Confirm

If your email is already registered with that workshop, the app asks for your password to confirm it's you. The booking appears in History straight away and lands in the workshop's system.

A booking starts as a request and becomes confirmed when the workshop accepts it. That change reaches you as a notification.

To cancel, open it in History and use Cancel. Cancelling goes through the workshop, which is notified: it isn't something that stays on your phone.

Home pickup#

On your workshop's card, under the booking button, there's Home pickup: if the workshop offers it, they come and collect the bike.

You fill in the type of job, the date, the address, the postcode and a phone number. As soon as you enter the postcode the app checks whether the workshop covers that area and, if it does, shows you the fee before you send. The request goes to the workshop, which confirms.

The type of job you pick is an intention, not a quote: "full service", "repair", "e-bike diagnosis". The price is set by the workshop once they've seen the bike. On the workshop side the feature is described in Pickup and delivery.

Following the job#

While the bike is in the workshop, you don't have to ring up to find out where it's got to.

On the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island a Live Activity follows three steps: In progressWaiting for partsReady for pickup. It updates by itself as the mechanic gets on, and closes when you collect the bike.

Inside the app, quotes arrive with a notification and are approved or declined from there. If a part that wasn't planned turns out to be needed once work has started, you get a separate approval request: until you answer, that part doesn't go on.

History keeps everything: current bookings at the top, past jobs below, and rides further down.

Common problems#

I can't see any free slots

Try another day: the app only shows the slots genuinely available at that workshop. If every date you look at is closed, the workshop may not have entered its opening hours yet — in that case give them a ring, booking from the app isn't the only way.

I got an invitation and it's gone

Invitations expire after 24 hours. Ask the workshop to send it again, or link up yourself from ProfileFind your workshop by searching for them by name.

I cancelled but the appointment is still there

Cancelling needs a connection, because it has to tell the workshop. If you were offline it didn't go through: try again when you have signal. A cancellation that never arrived would leave the workshop waiting for you.

I can't find my workshop in the list

The list only contains workshops in the CrankPal network. Tell us about them from the panel in ProfileMy workshops: we'll get in touch with them.
