Documents, sharing and transfer

The bike's documents, sharing it with the people you ride with, the family group, transferring ownership when you sell it, and deleting it, with 30 days to change your mind.

A bike isn't just the bike: it has an invoice, a warranty, sometimes another person riding it, and sooner or later a new owner. These features sit at the bottom of the Bikes tab, under the settings of the chosen bike, and partly in Profile.

They're for the bike's owner. Someone who rides it by invitation sees it and logs their rides on it, but doesn't edit it, hand it over or delete it.

The bike's documents#

In BikesDocuments you keep the bike's paperwork: purchase invoice, warranty, user manual, spec sheet, receipts, the report of a bike fitting. You add them with Upload document, from a file, from your photos or by taking a picture: PDFs or images up to 10 MB.

Documents of type Bike fitting also show up in BikesMy measurements (bike fitting), under the workshop's position. From there Upload your bike fitting PDF opens the upload with the type already chosen: it's the place for the report of a bike fitting done elsewhere.

For each document you choose who sees it: Only me, or Me and my workshops, so the mechanic has the warranty to hand when it's needed. Documents the workshop adds to the bike show up here with its name.

From the document's menu you also choose whether to hand it over with the bike if you sell it: the ones marked Goes with the bike pass to the new owner along with everything else.

Sharing a bike#

If two or more of you ride the bike, share it: everyone logs their own rides and the bike keeps count for all of you, so the components' wear is the real one.

  1. Open Share bike

In BikesShare bike. The other person needs a CrankPal account.

  2. Send the invitation

Type their email and tap Send invitation, or, if you're together, Show QR and have them scan it. The invitation is valid for 7 days.

  3. Confirm

When the other person accepts, we ask you to confirm it's the right person. From then on the bike also appears in their garage.

What someone riding your bike sees: the bike's state, meaning lights, components and upcoming services. Rides belong to whoever rides them: the others see the day and the kilometres, never the route, the time or heart data. The bike stays yours: only you edit it, take it to the workshop in your name or hand it over. You can remove access whenever you like.

On a shared bike you'll find Rides on this bike. If a ride wasn't on your bike, the owner detaches it with It wasn’t on my bike; if it was another of the people who ride it, Change who was riding. Someone riding another person's bike can stop whenever they like with Stop using this bike: their rides stay theirs.

The family group#

The family group is for the people who ride at home: each person pools the bikes they choose, and everyone logs rides on them.

You create it from ProfileFamily groupCreate a family group, give it a name and invite the others with Invite to the group, by email or with the QR code. Anyone asking to join waits for an administrator to confirm.

Your bikes join the family only if you choose, bike by bike. Anyone who leaves the group takes their bikes with them and loses access to the others'; rides stay with whoever rode them. An administrator can remove someone from the group or delete it.

Transferring ownership#

When you sell the bike or give it away, don't delete it: transfer it. The new owner receives it with all its history, and the workshop that sees it next knows what's fitted.

  1. Open Transfer ownership

In BikesTransfer ownership. The screen tells you what travels with the bike and what stays with you.

  2. Choose who to

Type the new owner's email and tap Send invitation. If you're together, Show QR: the new owner scans it, their request comes to you and you confirm it with Confirm the transfer. If they're in your family, you can pick them directly.

  3. Choose the documents

If the bike has documents marked to travel with it, check which ones you're handing over: whoever receives the bike will be able to open them.

With the bike go the components and their wear, treatments, the service logbook, kilometres, frame number, tags and warranties. You keep your rides, your fittings, the bike's photo and nickname. Service costs don't pass to the new owner, and neither does what you said about how you ride the bike: how far you ride, where you keep it, how you look after it. The new owner says that for themselves.

The transfer won't start if the bike has an open job at the workshop or a future booking: close the one and cancel the other first. Until the new owner accepts, you can stop everything with Cancel transfer.

If you're the one receiving a bike, You've been offered a bike appears at the top of the Bikes tab: tap Respond, then Accept the bike or Decline. Once you've accepted it, the app offers Complete your bike: the bike setup, with what comes from the logbook to confirm and your own riding to describe. See Bikes and rides.

Deleting a bike#

Delete bike, at the bottom of the Bikes tab, first asks you why: added by mistake, lost, scrapped, stolen or sold. If you sold it or gave it away, the app suggests transferring ownership, which is almost always the right choice.

The deleted bike goes into Recently deleted bikes and stays there for 30 days: until then you bring it back with Restore bike and find everything as it was. After that it's deleted for good, with its components and service history. Your rides stay yours, without a bike.

If a CrankPal sensor was mounted on the bike, it's unlinked: it stays yours and you can assign it to another bike.

Common problems#

I don't see Share bike or Transfer ownership

They appear on your own bikes that are on your account. On a bike you ride at someone else's invitation they're not there: the owner shares it or hands it over.

The ownership transfer won't start

Usually the bike has an open job at the workshop or a future booking, or there's already a transfer under way. The app tells you which: sort it out and try again. Your email also needs to be confirmed.

I deleted the wrong bike

Open it from Recently deleted bikes, at the bottom of the Bikes tab, and tap Restore bike. You have 30 days.
